If at all possible, stay in bed today.  It is guaranteed to be warm, cosy and in close proximity to snacks.  If you must get up, though, you will need to be prepared.  A packed lunch and a treat are good things to start with, as well as a raincoat, a compass, a guidebook to basic physics and a pocket telescope.  If you know how to locate the pole star, that would also be a big help.  Oh, and warm socks.  Handkerchief.  Don’t forget to tell someone where you are going before you leave home; or at least leave a note.  It might not be of much practical use, considering where you are headed, but at least it will give you something to recall and thus give you a sense of just how far you have travelled, once you are on your way.
